2 ladies in Msambweni charged with dealing in wildlife trophy value Ksh11M

Two ladies in Msambweni, Mombasa County, have been charged with illegally dealing in wildlife trophies value Ksh11 million.

The 2, Tima Omar Suya and Bahatisha Juma Stated, have been allegedly arrested with 5 items of elephant tusks weighing 111.98 kg with a road worth of Ksh11,198,000.

In accordance to the Workplace of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), the 2 don’t have permits to deal in wildlife trophies in Kenya.

“Tima Omar Suya and Bahatisha Juma Stated have been collectively charged with dealing in wildlife trophies of an endangered species with no allow or different lawful exemptions, opposite to Part 92(2) as learn with Part 105(1) of the Wildlife Conservation and Administration Act, 2013,” ODPP acknowledged.

They’re accused of concealing the trophies in sacks and ferrying them on board a motorized vehicle with no allow.

“Suya and Stated have been additionally charged with being in possession of trophies of an endangered species with no allow or different lawful exemption, opposite to Part 92(4) as learn with Part 105(1) of the Wildlife Conservation and Administration Act, 2013. The 2 accused individuals allegedly dedicated each offences on 6 January 2024 at round 0900hrs am within the Majoreni space of Lungalunga Sub County inside Kwale County,” ODPP added.

The prosecution, by Senior Prosecution Counsel Alice Mbaeh, didn’t object to their launch on bond.

The 2 have been every launched on a Ksh3 million bond with two sureties.

The case will likely be talked about on January 24, 2024, and heard on February 21, 2024.
