Man arrested after receiving Ksh1.5M bribe from applicant searching for Sony Sugar CEO job

Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-corruption Fee (EACC) have arrested a person after receiving a Ksh1.5 million bribe from an applicant searching for the place of South Nyanza Sugar Firm (Sony) CEO.

The person, Mark Kipruto Kuto, claimed to have been despatched by a principal secretary to gather the bribe on his behalf to help the applicant safe the job.

The applicant reported the matter to EACC, who arrested him at Nairobi’s central enterprise district (CBD) shortly after he had acquired the quantity.

“The Fee yesterday arrested Mark Kipruto Kuto who had requested and acquired a bribe of Kes. 1.5 million from the complainant claiming that he had been despatched by a Principal Secretary, as an inducement to help the complainant safe the place of Chief Government Officer of South Nyanza Sugar Firm, marketed on fifth December 2023,” EACC stated whereas confirming the arrest.

“The complainant reported the matter to EACC and upon investigation, the suspect was arrested inside the CBD after pocketing the money.”

The suspect spent the evening at Kilimani Police Station earlier than being transferred to EACC Police Station to facilitate investigations on the matter.

This comes moments after EACC confirmed the arrest of Kilifi assistant county commissioner Teddy Buya Bonaye accused of stealing reduction meals.

Bonaye is accused of stealing and promoting the humanitarian meals help valued at Ksh550,200.

The meals assist was meant for needy residents within the Tana North sub-county inside Tana River County.

“The Fee has this morning arrested one Teddy Buya Bonaya, the Assistant County Commissioner 1, Ganze Sub-County, in Kilifi County, who stole and offered reduction meals valued at Kes 550,200 meant for needy residents,” EACC stated.

Teddy can be arraigned in court docket on Thursday, February 31, 2023.
