In a bid to challenge the status quo and address the pressing concerns of Kenyans, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has launched a new opposition alliance, dubbed “Team Kusikiza Ground.” This coalition, comprising at least five MPs, including Githunguri’s Gathoni Wamuchomba, aims to rival the existing Azimio coalition.

During a press conference on Tuesday, Owino expressed dissatisfaction with what he perceived as a lack of action from the main opposition coalition in advocating for the rights of Kenyans. He asserted that the new alliance would actively engage in grassroots activism and street protests to amplify the voices of the marginalized.
Owino emphasized the coalition’s commitment to championing the welfare of all Kenyans across the eight regions of the country. He warned of impending countrywide protests in every ward and constituency to pressure the government into addressing the plight of its citizens.

Echoing Owino’s sentiments, Gathoni Wamuchomba highlighted the importance of addressing critical issues such as fake fertilizers and seeds, alcoholism, the Haiti mission, high taxation, and the ongoing doctors’ strike. She underscored the non-partisan nature of the alliance, stressing that its primary focus is on advocating for the interests of Kenyans irrespective of political affiliations.

However, beneath the facade of government scrutiny, Tuesday’s forum unveiled the simmering succession dynamics within the Azimio coalition. With Raila Odinga’s bid for the AU top job gaining traction, his lieutenants in both Azimio and the ODM party are positioning themselves for succession. Owino’s initiative is perceived as part of this strategic maneuvering within the political landscape.
