Meru County Assembly’s Deputy Speaker, Mwenda Ali, suffered severe injuries while tragically losing his daughter, Mellisa Makena, in a devastating road accident along the Meru-Embu highway.

The accident occurred when Deputy Speaker Ali’s vehicle, a Subaru Legacy, collided head-on with a Toyota double cabin at Kivwe village in Embu County. Witnesses described the collision as catastrophic, resulting in the Deputy Speaker’s car bursting into flames.
Traveling with two family members, including his daughter, and his driver, Michael Mwongera, Ali’s vehicle was engulfed in flames upon impact. Residents and passersby rushed to the scene, attempting to rescue the victims amidst the chaotic aftermath.

Ali sustained serious injuries, including a deep cut on the forehead, a dislocated left knee, and chest pains. Despite the tragedy, he survived the ordeal, and alongside other survivors, was airlifted to Nairobi for specialized medical treatment after initial treatment at Ena Hospital.
Embu County Commander Nicholas Maina confirmed the details of the incident, emphasizing the severity of the accident. Investigations have been launched to determine the cause of the collision, as authorities underscored the importance of road safety to prevent such tragedies.
