Joseph Mwenda, popularly known as DJ Joe Mfalme, has been released by the Kibera Magistrate Court and designated as a state witness in the murder case involving Kabete Police Detective Felix Kelian.
Magistrate Margaret Murage issued the order for the release of DJ Joe Mfalme, along with two of his crew members and three police officers, citing insufficient evidence to proceed with the prosecution of the six individuals.
The individuals set free alongside DJ Joe Mfalme are Eric Kariuki Gathua, Simon Wambugu Wanjiru, Khadija Abdi Wako, Sammy Cheruiyot Rotich, and Agnes Kerubo Mogoire.
However, the Director of Public Prosecutions has pressed charges against Allan Ochieng’, the primary respondent accused of assaulting the late DCI officer. Allan Ochieng’ is scheduled to face charges at the Kiambu High Court on Monday, April 8, 2024.

The release of DJ Joe Mfalme and his co-accused comes following a request by Investigative Officer Fredrick Kosen to close the application after concluding investigations into the case.
DJ Joe Mfalme and the other accused had been in police custody for 14 days as investigations continued into the circumstances surrounding the death of Kelian. The incident occurred when Kelian’s vehicle collided with Mfalme’s car near Kikuyu Police Station on March 16.

After complaining of abdominal pains at the police station, Kelian was rushed to Nairobi West Hospital, where he passed away on March 21, 2024.
As DJ Joe Mfalme regains his freedom, he will now play a crucial role as a state witness in the ongoing murder case, shedding light on the events leading up to Kelian’s tragic demise.
