DCI Vehicles Reportedly Involved in Dumping Bodies in Aberdares

Shocking revelations have emerged in court as a witness disclosed that government vehicles, linked to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), were purportedly used to trail, capture, and dispose of the bodies of a Kenyan taxi driver and two Indian nationals in the Aberdares National Park, Nyeri County. The trial, unfolding at Kahawa Law Courts in Kiambu County, involves fifteen suspects, primarily comprising thirteen DCI officers, accused in connection with the disappearance of Mohamed Zaid Sami, Zulfiqar Ahmed Khan, and their driver Nicodemus Mwania Mwange.

The witness detailed that the vehicles, reportedly affiliated with the now-defunct Special Services Unit (SSU) of the DCI, were allegedly captured by tracking logs entering the Aberdares via the Tree Tops gate, surpassing official park visiting hours on July 22, 2022. Moreover, discrepancies arose as the vehicle in question, registered as GKB 038U, was not documented in the gate vehicle register book, as per records from Kenya Wildlife Service gate registers.

Further scrutiny unfolded as twenty mobile phones belonging to the accused were seized and subjected to forensic analysis by the DCI before being forwarded to the Communications Authority of Kenya for additional examination. Notably, some devices were sent to India for extended analysis to ascertain crucial details surrounding the purported abductions.

Disturbing correspondences uncovered from one of the phones allegedly implicated Corporal John Mwangi Kamau and Corporal Joseph Mwenda Mbaya, hinting at a potential revisit to the scene. In the exchanged messages dated October 16, Kamau’s response, “Tanki alienda,” alludes to one of the accused persons, raising significant questions regarding the chain of events surrounding the victims’ disappearance.

Among the accused facing charges ranging from abduction with intent to murder to forgery are individuals including Corporal Kamau, Corporal Mbaya, Chief Inspector Peter Muthee Gachiku, and several others. The victims, Mr. Sami and Mr. Khan, who arrived in Kenya to join then Deputy President William Ruto’s ICT campaign team ahead of the August 2022 General Election, mysteriously vanished after being abducted outside the Ole Sereni Hotel in Nairobi on July 25.
